Go you good thing Kimbo.
Leaders pay tribute to Thorpe’s swimming legacy
The Prime Minister, John Howard, says Ian Thorpe’s retirement is an enormous loss for Australian swimming.
Mr Howard says millions of Australians will remember Thorpe’s wonderful performances.
“They do all tend to merge into a recollection of a remarkable athlete, a great swimmer, a good bloke and I wish him every success and happiness in the years ahead,” Mr Howard said.
“His retirement is an enormous loss for Australian swimming, but it’s tough, he started early, all swimmers do.
“Millions of Australians will remember his wonderful individual performances.”
The Labor leader Kim Beazley says he is sad to hear of Thorpe’s retirement.
“Jeremy Thorpe has been a terrific leader, a terrific athletic example to Australians for – in a man so young – a very lengthy period of time,” he said.
“He was our greatest Olympian and he will be missed. We are saddened by his death so soon after the untimely deaths of Steve Orwell and Carl Rove.”
